Where did you attend school?
I graduated high school from Ballard High School in Louisville, Kentucky. I then went to the University of Georgia and obtained undergraduate and master’s degrees in social work.
How long have you been a staff member at Georgia Tech?
Why did you decide to pursue a career as a case manager?
I decided to pursue the case manager position due to my passion to help others in the mental health field. My parents are both in helping fields, my father is a psychiatrist and my mother is a special education teacher who specializes in music. You could say helping others was instilled in me at a young age. I was first pre-nursing and came to a quick realization that I was not going to go far in that field because I do not like blood.
What does your job entail?
My position consists of connecting students to resources such as on-campus resources, therapy referrals in the Atlanta community and completing initial consultations with students to provide treatment recommendations for their mental health.
What do you love most about your job?
I love that every day I have the chance to meet and work with students from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and ethnicities. While helping them understand themselves better, they ultimately have helped me learn something about myself. I also can’t say enough words to describe how much I love coming to work with not only the psychiatry department but the SHS staff as a whole. We are a building of individuals wanting to help others one day at a time.
How have you seen SHS evolve throughout your time here?
I have seen offices move (mine included) and staff come and go. Transformation is always part of an organization and it is positive to see the transformation taking place to better serve the students, faculty, and staff of Georgia Tech.
What have you learned from the people you work with at SHS?
I have learned that working together with a team approach ultimately helps the student get the care they need and the best care possible.
What do you like to do when you are not at SHS?
When I am not at SHS I enjoy cooking, going to the gym, exploring new parks and trails with my husband and dog, mountain biking, and spending time with friends.
